Huntingdon, Pa. - Juniata's women's tennis team defeated Albright College 7-2 on Saturday, Sept. 24, their first match on the new Winton Hill Athletics Complex tennis courts.
The Eagles started off the day by sweeping Albright in doubles actions. Partners Lauren Lucas (Holidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area HS) and Vienna Cardier (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) beat their opponents 8-6. Savannah Bailey (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and Kelley Appow (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) completed a shutout, winning their match 8-0. Devin Ryman (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) and Theresa Joson (Bowmansville, Pa./Garden Spot) completed the sweep as they took their match 8-3.
In singles action, Cardier, Bailey, Soumya Polavarapu (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater Raritan), and Ryman earned wins against their respective opponents. Cardier, in Juniata's two spot, took the first set 6-1 and the second 6-3. Polavarapu kept her opponent scoreless in the second set, winning the match 6-1, 6-0.
Juniata's women's tennis team will complete their fall play on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at the Winton Hill Athletics Complex as they take on Penn St.-Altoona.
