SCRANTON, Pa. – Three record setting races helped slot the Juniata College women's swim team fourth after the first day of competition at the 2014 Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving championship, hosted by Marywood University.

The quartet of senior Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County), freshman Erika Fimple (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby), and sophomores Emily Nye (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) and Tzvia Cahn (San Jose, Calif./Kehilla Jewish) kicked off the night in the 200 freestyle relay, capturing first place in record setting fashion. The team touched the wall in 1:38.53, all while breaking the Landmark, pool, meet, and program record. Juniata's previous record of 1:39.95 was set in 2005. The conference, pool, and meet records were set by a University of Scranton team at the championships in 2012. The win marked the first ever conference relay victory for the Eagles in program history.

The same team of Palmer, Nye, Fimple, and Cahn set yet another record in the last event of the night, the 400 medley relay, with a time of 4:05.83. This time broke the previous school record of 4:06.42, which stood for over 10 years.

Palmer and Fimple also competed in the 200 IM, where they went 2-3, respectively. Palmer's second place mark of 2:11.88 broke the record she set at the Landmark Championships last season. Fimple captured third place in a personal best 2:14.35, which places her fourth all-time in the event in school history.

In the 50 free, Nye finished third and Cahn was close behind in fifth place. Nye's time of 24.77 gives her the second best time in program history, while Cahn finds herself sixth after her mark of 25.32. Sophomore Chrissy Whiteman (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) captured points for the Eagles in the 500 free, finishing 12th in a personal best time of 5:29.38.

At the end of the first day of competition, the Eagles sit in fourth place with 137.5 points. The University of Scranton holds the early lead with 181.5 points. Competition resumes tomorrow, Feb. 8 at 10 a.m.
