Bortak Named ECAC All-Star
May 24, 2013HUNTINGDON, Pa. - The postseason honors keep pouring in for sophomore Joe Bortak (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) of Juniata College men’s volleyball. The two-time All-America middle blocker was named an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) All-Star Friday afternoon. He was the only Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) student-athlete to make the list. -
Juniata Recognizes Big Five at 17th Annual Athletics Awards Night
May 06, 2013HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Juniata College Athletics reviewed its year in sports and acknowledged the accomplishments of its student-athletes at the 17th Annual Athletic Awards Night. Held Sunday night on campus, the event also recognized the departments “Big Five”, the top five senior student-athletes who have made incredible contributions not only to their respective sports, but the institution as a whole over the course of their four years.

Eagles Upset 3-0 in NCAA Quarterfinals by Rivier
April 26, 2013ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A slow start hurt No. 8 Juniata College men’s volleyball in its NCAA Quarterfinal match against No. 15 Rivier University Friday night. The Eagles (24-12) fell 3-0 (28-26, 25-20, 25-23) to end their historic season. Rivier improved to 27-11 on the year and will face host Nazareth College Saturday, April 27 at 6 p.m. in the national semifinal.

Eagles Prepare for First NCAA Tournament Berth in Program History
April 23, 2013HUNTINGDON, Pa. - It’s been nearly two weeks since the Juniata College men’s volleyball team swept UC Santa Cruz (3-0) to win the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Tournament and the Eagles have not let up. Winning the program’s first CVC championship also secured its first NCAA Tournament berth. As one of the final eight teams selected, No. 8 Juniata travels to Rochester, N.Y. to play in the national quarterfinal against No. 15 Rivier University on Friday, April 26 at 8 p.m.

April 22, 2013HUNTINGDON, Pa. - For the second year in a row, the Juniata College men’s volleyball team had multiple Eagles named to American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America teams. Sophomores Joe Bortak (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) and Paul Kuhn (York, Pa./Central York) earned first and second-team honors, respectively.

Third year head coach Kevin Moore and freshman Matt Elias (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) were named CVC Coach and Rookie of the Year, respectively.

Juniata Men’s Volleyball Earns First CVC Title in 3-0 Sweep
April 13, 2013GREENVILLE, Pa. - The No. 8 Juniata College men’s volleyball team swept UC Santa Cruz 3-0 (27-25, 25-22, 25-22) Saturday evening to earn its first Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) championship. The Eagles (24-11) hit over .400 as a team and earned nine team blocks in the sweep. Freshman Matt Elias (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) was named the tournament most valuable player.

Three Eagles Earn CVC All-East Division Honors
April 12, 2013HUNTINGDON, Pa. - No. 8 Juniata College men’s volleyball saw three Eagles named to the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) All-East Division Team, the organization released Friday. Junior Ross Madden (Richmond, Va./Deep Run) and sophomores Joe Bortak (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford) and Paul Kuhn (York, Pa./Central York) made the cut. This is Juniata’s second year in the league and second year they have had over two student-athletes recognized.

Eagles Take Game From Princeton, Fall 3-1 on the Road
April 09, 2013PRINCETON, N.J. – Facing its fourth NCAA Division I opponent this year, the No. 8 Juniata men’s volleyball team fought hard, but fell 3-1 on the road Tuesday night in Dillon Gym. Juniata (22-11) has taken games from each of the Division I opponents its faced this season except one. Princeton improved to 12-8 with the win.

Juniata Secures No. 1 Seed in Conference Championships
April 06, 2013LANGHORNE, Pa. - The No. 8 Juniata College men's volleyball team swept competition in the final day of its Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) East Divisional weekend to improve to 22-10 overall and secure the No. 1 East seed at the CVC Championships. Juniata defeated Eastern Mennonite (EMU) 3-1 (25-22, 16-25, 25-16, 25-23) before sweeping host Cairn in straight sets, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-20).

No. 8 Juniata Tops No. 9 Stevenson 3-1 at CVC East Divisional
April 05, 2013LANGHORNE, Pa. – No. 8 Juniata College men’s volleyball held off No. 9 Stevenson University, winning 3-1 (25-23, 22-25, 25-21, 32-30) Friday evening to open its last Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) East Divisional weekend of the 2013 season. Juniata (20-10, 4-2 CVC) only has three more matches remaining before the CVC Championships. Stevenson dropped to 19-10, 4-2 in CVC play with the loss.

No. 8 Juniata Sweeps Thiel 3-0, Improves to 19-10
April 03, 2013GREENVILLE, Pa. – The 8th ranked Juniata College men’s volleyball earned redemption Wednesday night as the Eagles swept Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) rival Thiel 3-0 (27-25, 26-24, 25-19) on the road. Juniata (19-10, 3-2 CVC) lost to the Tomcats at home 3-1 in their last match. The win snapped an eight match win streak for Thiel (18-9) that dated back to March 17.

No. 4 Juniata Defeats Penn State Behrend 3-1
March 19, 2013HUNTINGDON, Pa. – No. 4 Juniata College men’s volleyball defeated Penn State Behrend 3-1 at home Friday night in the Kennedy Sports+Recreation Center. Four Eagles finished in double-figure kills as Juniata improved to 17-7 overall.

No. 3 Juniata Sweeps Final Day of CVC East Divisional Play
March 09, 2013HARRISONBURG, Pa. – Juniata men’s volleyball swept competition in day two of the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) East Divisional play at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) Saturday. The No. 3 Eagles defeated hosts EMU 3-0 (25-13, 25-20, 27-25) before taking down Cairn 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-12, 25-20) to improve to 16-7 overall, 2-1 in league play.

Juniata Sweeps Competition at Tri-Match, Improves to 14-6 Overall
March 02, 2013HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata men’s volleyball rebounded from a tough loss Friday night by going undefeated at home (2-0) in a tri-match with No. 6 Stevens Tech and Hilbert College. The Eagles defeated Hilbert 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-15) before topping Stevens 3-1 (25-23, 27-29, 33-31, 25-19). Juniata is now 14-6 overall, 6-3 against ranked opponents.

No. 2 Nazareth Too Much For No. 3 Eagles
March 01, 2013HUNTINGDON, Pa. – No. 3 Juniata men’s volleyball couldn’t stifle No. 2 Nazareth College’s offense Friday night in the Kennedy Sports+Recreation Center as the Eagles fell 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-22) and Nazareth remained undefeated, 16-0. Juniata (12-6) recorded 10 team blocks in the match. They currently lead the nation in blocks per game.

Strauss Named CVC Player of the Week
February 20, 2013HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Senior Rob Strauss (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) was named the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday. This is the first time Strauss has earned the honor. He helped lead the sixth-ranked Eagles to a 3-2 upset of No. 1 Springfield last Friday night.

No. 6 Juniata Sweeps Final Day of Invitational, Improves to 11-3 Overall
February 16, 2013HUNTINGDON, Pa. – After two days of the Juniata Invitational, No. 6 Juniata men’s volleyball was the only team to walk away undefeated. The Eagles closed out competition Saturday with wins over No. 9 New Paltz State 3-1 (26-28, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19) and Penn State Altoona, 3-0 (25-10, 25-16, 25-17). Juniata (11-3) took down three ranked teams over the course of the invitational and remains undefeated (6-0) at home.

No. 6 Eagles Upset No. 1 Springfield, 3-2, in Epic Fifth Game
February 15, 2013HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata men’s volleyball team upset No. 1 Springfield College 3-2 (24-26, 25-20, 22-25, 28-26, 24-22) Friday night at the Juniata Invitational. The sixth ranked Eagles had match point eight times before finally putting it away for the second win on the day. Juniata (9-3) defeated No. 12 Medaille 3-2 (27-25, 19-25, 27-29, 25-21, 15-7) in an earlier match of the invitational.

February 10, 2013GREENVILLE, Pa. – After splitting yesterday’s contests, No. 4 Juniata men’s volleyball closed out the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) crossover weekend with two wins. The Eagles defeated Fontbonne in straight sets, 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, 25-17), before taking down Stevenson in four, 3-1 (25-23, 17-25, 25-18, 25-20). Juniata is now 7-3 overall and 3-2 against teams ranked or receiving votes.

No. 4 Juniata Holds on For 3-1 Win Over Host Thiel

Sophomore Eric McCarthy (Villa Park, Ill./Willowbrook) picked up a career-high 20 digs. Juniata improved to 5-2 with the win.

McColgin Named Continental Volleyball Conference Player of the Week
January 31, 2013HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Junior Alex McColgin (Buffalo, N.Y./Hamburg) has been named the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Player of the Week, the organization announced Thursday. He helped lead the No. 3 Eagles to a 2-0 week with wins over No. 11 Vassar and No. 15 Elmira.
