SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The Juniata men's track and field throwers opened the outdoor slate of the season with the hammer throw and shot put on day one of the Susquehanna-hosted Jim Taylor Invitational. Barrett Walters started the season with the second-best hammer throw in program history.

Barrett Walters, Brenden Nauman, and Luke Bittner each competed in the hammer through. Walters set a personal record en route to his fifth-place finish with a 47.52-meter throw on his fifth attempt. He sets the second-best mark in program history, improving on his previous best of 41.29 meters set at the Ship Mid-Week Meet last season. He stands 1.59 meters from Andrew Paterno's record of 49.11 meters set in 2017. Nauman threw 37.29 meters on his first attempt for a 20th-place showing. Bittner's first mark as an Eagle in the event was 29.36 meters for a 30th-place result.

John Redos and Bittner each logged their first outdoor shotput mark for Juniata. Redos threw 10.69 meters to finish in 21st place, while Bittner's 9.42-meter throw gave him a 31st-place finish.

The men's track and field team will take part in day two of the Jim Taylor Invitational tomorrow and is slated to compete in the discus, javelin, 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, 400-meter event, and 5000-meter race. The day begins at 9:00 am.
