Men's Track and Field Opens Indoor Season at River Hawks Opener

SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The Juniata men's track and field team opened up their indoor season at the Susquehanna River Hawks Opener, Friday. 

Taking the top spot for the Eagles in the field, Thayer Phillips (Cuddy, Pa. / South Fayette) placed seventh in the shot put marking 12.51m. Daniel Fernandez (New Oxford, Pa. / New Oxford) took 16th in the shot put marking 11.09m. Fernandez placed 10th in the weight throw marking 11.07m while Phillips placed 13th marking 10.60m. In the long jump, Brian Dignazio (Milford, Mass. / Milford High) placed eighth marking 5.91m. 

On the running side of things, Brenden Gardner (Muncy, Pa. / Hughesville) placed fourth in the 60m hurdles coming in with a time of 9.20 while Dignazio placed ninth with a time of 9.67. Evan Ulrich (Homer, N.Y. / Homer) took the top spot for Juniata in the 3000m run finishing fourth with a time of 8:58.93 and Alexander Jones (Burlington, N.J. / Burlington Township) finished seventh with a time of 9:10.49. In the 400m dash, Evan MacMullin (Haverhill, Mass. / Saint John's Prep HS) finished eighth (56.92), while Noah Zolnak (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area HS) placed ninth (57.61) and Malcom MacDermid (San Francisco, Calif. / Lick-Wilmanding) placed 10th (57.91). Zolnak placed 21st in the 200m dash. 

The Eagles return after the new year on January 18th as they will compete in the Highlander Invitational.
