Men’s Distance Relay Wins at Landmark Track and Field Championships

SELINSGROVE, PA- For the second year in a row, the Juniata men's distance relay team has claimed victory at the Landmark track and field championships which were held at Susquehanna University on Saturday. The team of Matt and Steven Guetzlaff (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland), Davon Jackson (Deptford, NJ/Deptford Township) and Conor Dimond (Summerhill, PA/Forest Hills) came in first with a final time of 10:43.83.

 

The win was the highlight of several top finishes at the event. Overall, the men came in fifth with a total of 40 points and just one point behind fourth place Merchant Marine.

 

Tyler Mandley (Altoona, PA/Altoona Area) just missed on a first place result in the 60-meter hurdles. He came in second with a time of 8.74, which was .02 behind the winner Brian Etz of Susquehanna.

 

Matt Guetzlaff came in third in the 3,000 meter run with a final time of 8:54.57. Dimond was 9th (9:11.49). Jaie Johnson (Reading, PA/Reading) was fourth in the 400-meter dash (52.07).

 

Trenton Barnes (Hopewell, PA/Northern Bedford) had a pair of top-10 finishes. He was 5th in the 60-meter dash (7.32) and 9th in the 200-meter dash (24.07). Fellow Eagle Johnson was right behind him in 10th place (24.09).

 

Gabriel Duran (Temple, PA/Oley Valley) was 10th in the 800 meter run (2:08.66). Kevin Schofield (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) was ninth in the 5,000 meter run (16:39.92) while Stephen Park (State College, PA/State College) came in 10th (16.41.01).

 

In the 4x200 meter relay, the quartet of Barnes, Jackson, AJ Hutchison (Loveland, CO/Greeley Central), and Eli Murphy (Poland, ME/Poland Central) ran to a 5th place result (1:37.13). The 4x400 relay squad of Jackson, Hutchison, Johnson, and Steven Guetzlaff were sixth (3:43.27).

 

In field events, Andrew Paterno (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) turned in a pair of top 10 performances.  In the weight throw, he had a toss of 14.08 meters that was good for fourth place. At shot put, Paterno had a throw of 12.20 meters that placed him in ninth. J.R. Hemminger (Somerset, PA/Somerset) was fifth in the pole vault (3.80) while Nathan Chavis (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) was sixth (3.65). Chavis also was eighth in the triple jump (11.87).

 

The women were also fifth and totaled 12.5 points. The best individual result went to Katelyn Fisher (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) who was was fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.52 meters.

 

Abigail Rosenberger (Duncannon, PA/Susquenita) tied for 5th in the pole vault (2.29 meters). Alissa Sellers (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) was sixth in the triple jump (9.97 meters) and added a seventh place result in the long jump (4.75 meters). Chelsey Beaver (Shamokin Dam, PA/Selinsgrove Area) had a toss of 10.92 meters in the shot put and came in seventh.  Kaitlyn Cosby (Frederick, MD/Frederick) was 10th (10.77) in the 60 meter hurdles.

 

All three of the relays came in fifth. The quartet of Allyson Kopera (Hastings, PA/Northern Cambria), Jecenia Duran (Temple, PA/Oley Valley), Chelsea Chizmar (Johnstown, PA/Forest Hills), and Vanessa Hurst (Ephrata, PA/Ephrata) had a time of 14:02.17. The team of Cosby, Sellers, Cheyenne Brown (Tunkhannock/Tunkhannock), and Lauren Lock (Huntingdon, PA/Juniata) finished in 1:54.05. The squad of Chizmar, Lock, Erin Gaines (Hagerstown, MD/Williamsport), and Duran sprinted to a time of 4:35.56.
