Track and Field Teams Compete at Orange and Maroon Classic

SELINSGROVE, PA- Following a long layoff, the Juniata men's and women's track and field teams returned to action on Friday at the Susquehanna Orange and Maroon Classic. Both teams had impressive showings.

 

For the men, there were several top ten results. Jaie Johnson (Reading, PA/Reading) had the best finish of the meet as he came in second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.27. He was a member of the 4x400 meter relay team along with Davon Jackson (Deptford, NJ/Deptford Township), AJ Hutchison (Loveland, CO/Greeley Central), and Tyler Mandley (Altoona, PA/Altoona) that came in fourth with a final time of 3:38.

 

Mandley placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a sub nine-second time (8.94). Matt Guetzlaff (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) came in fourth in the 3000 meter run with a time of 9:16.94. Fellow teammate Conor Dimond (Summerhill, PA/Forest Hills) was 12th (9:30.04). Steven Guetzlaff (Schnecksville, PA/Parkland) was ninth in the 800 meter run (2:05.06). The distance relay squad of Stephen Park (State College, PA/State College), Gabriel Duran (Temple, PA/Oley Valley), Matt Guetzlaff, and Ben Martin (New Hollland, PA/Garden Spot) placed second (11:33.67).

 

There were three top 10 placements in the field events. Nathan Chavis (Palmyra, PA/Palmyra) turned in a seventh place finish in the triple jump with a measurement of 11.95 meters. Andrew Paterno (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) came in eighth in the shot-put with a throw of that went 12.24 meters and was ninth in the weight throw with a toss of 10.36 meters.

 

On the women's side, there were two finishes in the top five. Alissa Sellers (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon Area) had a long jump leap of 4.79 meters to place fourth. Katelyn Fisher (Rochester, NY/Greece Athena) finished in a four-way tie for eighth place in the high jump with a measure of 1.47 meters.

 

The two teams will next compete at the Highlander Invitational hosted by Houghton College next Saturday.
