Alter Claims Victory as Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Competes at Landmarks

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The Juniata College men's track & field team is sitting in third place after the first day of competition at the 2014 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by the United States Merchant Marine Academy. The Eagles have amassed 20 points through the first six scored events. Moravian College currently leads with 101 points.

 

Senior Nate Alter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) picked up the Eagles only victory of the day. Alter won the 10,000 meter run in a career best time of 32:19.09 give Juniata its first win in the event since the 2010 championship.

 

In the 1500 meter run sophomore Matt Guetzlaff (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) finished fourth in a career best time of 4:04.52. Classmate R.J. Bogdan (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius High School) placed eighth.

 

Freshman Andrew Paterno (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro) placed sixth in the javelin throw with a personal best mark of 43.89 meters. Sophomore Jon Atland (York, Pa./Central York) also scored points for the Eagles after placing eighth.

 

In the 100 meter and the 200 meter dash preliminary rounds, freshman Trenton Barnes (Hopewell, Pa./Northern Bedford) had the eighth fastest times, good enough to compete in Sunday's finals.

 

The second and final day of the championship meet continues Sunday at 9 a.m. for field events and 11 a.m. for track events.
