Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Hosts Season Opener on Saturday

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – On Saturday, March 22 the Juniata College men's outdoor track & field team will host the Juniata Invitational to kick off the 2014 season. The team was chosen to finish third in this year's preseason poll after placing fourth at the 2013 Landmark Outdoor Championship Meet.

 

This season Nate Alter (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) and sophomore Matt Guetzlaff (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) will be strong contenders in the distance events, while junior Tyler Mandley (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) will be a threat in the hurdles.

 

Many individuals had standout performances at the 2013 Juniata College Invitational. In the field, senior Justin Herr (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) placed fourth in the long jump, fifth in the triple jump, and sixth in the high jump. Sophomore J.R. Hemminger (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) finished sixth in the pole vault and fellow sophomore Garrett Lavelle (Eden, N.Y./Eden Jr./Sr. High School) landed sixth in the discus.

 

On the track, Guetzlaff came in fourth in the 3000 meter run. Sophomore Michael Roth (Frederick, Md./Urbana High School) finished fifth overall in the 400 meter hurdles and sixth in the 100 meter dash. Alter placed sixth in the 1500 meter run.
