Eagles’ Match with Bullets Called Due to Darkness

GETTYSBURG, Pa.- The Juniata and Gettysburg men's tennis match was suspended due to darkness on Friday. The Eagles were ahead 4-3 when the last two matches were halted.

 

JC was ahead 2-1 at the completion of doubles play. The pair of Roy Liberman (Montevideo, Uruguay/EIHU) and Dean Polisena (Adelaide, Australia / Saint Ignatius) won over Kevin DeRosa and Kevin Maier 8-2 at first doubles. Dan Ansel (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and Owen Grafe (Newton, Mass./Newton North) teamed up at third doubles to defeat Max Nickel and Devin McVeigh 8-5.

 

In singles play, Polisena was a winner at first flight 6-3, 6-3 over Christian Deschapelles. Liberman went to super tiebreaker with DeRosa but fell 6-4, 2-6, 9-11. Daichi McAuliffe-Uchida (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional) was the other winner for JC as he claimed a 6-2, 6-2 decision against Meier at fourth singles. Ansel forced a super tiebreaker at fifth singles but lost 5-7, 6-2, 7-10 to Andrew Corwin.

 

The two unfinished matches were at third and sixth singles. Matyas Kohout (Prague, Czech Republic / Gymnasium Jizni Mesto) won the first set 7-6 and was leading 4-2 against Nick D'Amore at third flight. Grafe took set one 6-3 and was ahead 5-3 with Nickel.

 

The Eagles begin Landmark Conference play next Saturday at Catholic. Start time for the match is 1:00 p.m.
