Men’s Tennis Drops Close Decision To Baldwin Wallace

HILTON HEAD, SC- The Juniata men's tennis team began it spring trip with a match against Baldwin Wallace on Monday morning. The Eagles dropped a 5-4 decision to the Yellow Jackets.

 

Juniata took one of three in doubles competition. The pair of Sho Sato (Shiga, Japan/Kansai Gaidai University) and Logan Moore (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) rallied from down 7-6 with three straight points to defeat Nathan Katz and Jake Liebler 9-7.

 

Five singles matches went to a super tie-breaker with JC taking three of them. In first singles, Dean Polisena (Adelaide, Australia / Saint Ignatius) won his first set 6-4 and dropped his second one 6-4 before taking the third set 10-3 over Peter Harris. Matyas Kohout (Krhanice, Czech Republic/Gymnasium Jizni Mesto) (6-2, 6-7, 10-7) and Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, PA/Garnet Valley) (6-0, 4-6, 10-7) also won in tie-breakers.

 

Moore rallied in his match with Kevin Frederick but ultimately fell 3-6, 7-6, 10-4. Michael Lifshitz (Worcester, MA/Worcester Academy) lost 7-6 in his first set with Brian Carano and was behind 5-1 in the second before coming back to tie it at 5-5. Lifshitz, however, was unable to keep the rally going as Carano tallied the last two points to win 7-5.

 

The Eagles play two matches tomorrow. Juniata faces off against Nazareth at 8 a.m. and then takes on Rhodes at 6:30 p.m.
