HUNTINGDON, Pa. – In the Juniata College men's tennis teams' first ever home-postseason match, in its first match as the No. 1 seed in the postseason tournament, the Eagles came away with their first ever Landmark tournament win. Juniata topped Moravian College 5-1 win and earned a chance to play the second seeded Cardinals of Catholic University of America for the Landmark title on Saturday.
The Eagles took the early 2-1 lead after doubles with freshman Dean Polisena (Adelaide, Australia / Saint Ignatius) and sophomore Logan Moore (Chadds Ford, Pa. / Unionville) earning the 8-2 win at No. 1. Sophomore Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, Pa. / Garnet Valley) and senior Justin Wisniewski (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown) narrowly lost out on the No. 2 doubles win, 8-6, but senior Elliott Perow (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) and sophomore Mike Lifshitz (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Academy) grabbed the 8-3 victory for the advantage out of doubles.
In singles play, Polisena won his first postseason singles match taking the No. 1 position 6-0, 6-2 for his 17th win of the season. Wisniewski maintained his unbeaten record in dual match play with his 18th consecutive victory. He bounced back from a second set loss to claim the victory, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, putting Juniata up 4-1 and improving to 20-4 on the year.
The Eagles earned the match clinching victory when Moore bounced back from a 1-6 opening set loss to take the final two sets of No. 5 singles in sweep fashion, 6-0, 6-0. Moore extends his winning streak to eight matches and improves to 16-0 at the No. 5 singles position. Juniata will host Catholic at 1 p.m. on Raffensperger tennis courts Saturday, April 26, as both teams vie for a program first league championship.
