TOWSON, Md. – With just one match remaining in the regular season, the Juniata College men's tennis team is still undefeated at 16-0. The Eagles rounded out a perfect Landmark Conference regular season with an 8-1 win over Goucher College. Juniata is now 7-0 in league play and will face Moravian College in the conference semifinals at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 23.
The Eagles finished doubles play with a 2-1 advantage after senior Justin Wisniewski (Moorestown, N.J. / Moorestown) and sophomore Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, Pa. / Garnet Valley) won their fifth consecutive No. 2 match and senior Elliott Perow (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) and sophomore Mike Lifshitz (Worcester, Mass. / Worcester Academy) won their sixth No. 3 doubles match in a row and 14th of the season.
Juniata stormed to the 8-1 win by following up doubles play with a full sweep of singles matches. Wisniewski continued his unbeaten streak winning No. 3 singles 6-1, 6-2 to set a new program record for singles match victories with this 48th win. Freshman Dean Polisena (Adelaide, Australia / Saint Ignatius) improved to 6-1 in Landmark singles matches at the No. 1 position and holds the best No. 1 record in the conference.
Gregory won his 10th match in a row taking No. 2 singles in a third set tiebreak and has not lost a singles match since March 15. At the No. 4 position, Perow earned the easy 6-1, 6-3 win to improve his win streak to three matches. Moore has now won 14 matches on the year at the No. 5 position and improved to 6-1 in league play with a 6-0, 6-2 win.
Lifshitz eared this only clean sweep of the day taking No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-0 for the final win of the day for Juniata. The Eagles will face Gettysburg College in the final regular season match, Friday April 18, at 3:30 p.m.
