SCRANTON, Pa. – In a matchup of the top two teams in the Landmark Conference, and the only two teams untouched by a league opponent, the Juniata College men's tennis team walked off the court with a 6-3 win over The University of Scranton. The Eagles improve to 11-0 overall and 4-0 in conference matches.
The Royals started off the match by taking two of the three doubles matches with senior Elliott Perow (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon) and sophomore Mike Lifshitz (Worcester, Mass./Worcester) earning the one win at the No. 3 position, 8-3. The pair has one nine of the last 10 matches together.
The Eagles then stormed through singles play taking five of the six positions for the match win. Perow fought his way through a tiebreak in the first set to take the No. 3 position 7-6, 6-3. Fellow senior Justin Wisniewski (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) won his 11th consecutive singles match to remain unbeaten in dual match play and 13-4 overall on the year.
Sophomore Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) extended his winning streak to five matches with a 6-1, 6-1, win at No. 4 and classmate Logan Moore (Chadds Ford, Pa./Unionville) came back from a 1-6 loss in the first set to claim the No. 5 position winning the final two sets 6-1, and 6-2. Lifshitz won his third singles match in a row earning the final victory of the day for Juniata.
The Eagles will stay on the road tomorrow, April 6, for matches against York College and Elizabethtown College at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. respectively. Juniata will return home for a Landmark match against Susquehanna University Wednesday, April 9, at 3:30 p.m.
