Colonels Hold Off Eagles in Game One of the Series

Colonels Hold Off Eagles in Game One of the Series

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata baseball team mounted a valiant comeback but ultimately came up short as they lost, 9-6, to open their home series against Wilkes College Saturday afternoon.

An RBI single up the middle in the first and an RBI single to right in the fourth doubled the lead to 2-0 for Wilks

The Eagles answered in the bottom half of the fourth, with Michael Warren bopping a one-out single to left. Joey Woodrow drew a walk, and Charlie Bakken doubled to right, scoring Warren to cut the deficit in half.

Four runs on four hits in the fifth sunk the Eagles into a five-run hole.

Juniata put together their own big inning in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs on five hits, highlighted by RBI from Dakotah Snyder and Woodrow, bringing JC within one at 6-5.

The teams each added a run in the eighth, with Juniata scoring via a Corey Daniels sacrifice fly that scored JR Harrison

The Colonels scored two insurance runs in the ninth, and Juniata couldn't find an answer in the bottom half of the inning as the game ended 9-6.

Juniata will host Wilkes in a pair of games tomorrow, starting at noon.
