HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The #3 Juniata women's volleyball team cruised past visiting Catholic, 3-0 (25-12, 25-17,25-21) Wednesday evening at Memorial Gymnasium.
The first set saw Juniata hit a blistering .419 with 15 kills as they rolled to a 25-12 win in the opening set.
The Cardinals hung around early in the second set as they led 8-12 before a big Eagle run. Audrey Muth tallied a kill, Brianne Carmody and Courtney Williams combined for a block. Carmody and Kennedy Christy added kills; Catholic committed an attacking error before Muth and Williams closed the run with kills to make it 15-12 Eagles. Later with the score at 18-16, Carmody got another kill before Christy put down three straight kills to make it 22-16, and the visitors called timeout. That did not stem the Eagle momentum as they wound up winning 25-17 on a Catholic attack error.
The third set saw the Cardinals trying to keep pace, and with the sore at 11-8, Juniata made their move. Two kills from Carmody, two aces from Kiona Sky Rousset-Hernandez, a kill apiece from Lexy Bloss and Aly Reardon, along with a Cardinal attack error, put JC in the driver's seat at 18-8.
A Mia Schubert kill gave the Eagles match point at 24-13, but the Cardinals fought off eight match points as they got within three at 24-21. Muth ended the Cardinal rally with her 11th kill of the night.
Juniata returns to action this weekend when they take on Stevens at 7:00 pm inside Memorial Gymnasium.
