Women's Volleyball Disarms Spartans

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's volleyball team took down visiting York (Pa.) 3-0 (25-23, 25-12, 25-20) on the opening match of the Wid Guisler Friday afternoon inside Memorial Gymnasium.

The opening set saw the Spartans push ahead 8-15, with the Eagles needing a 4-0 surge to get within three. JC eventually pulled even on a kill by Lily Podolan (Columbus, Ohio / Worthington Kilbourne), and it was back & forth the rest of the way. With the score at 23-23, following an Eagle timeout, Olivia Foley (Coldwater, Mich / Coldwater HS) placed a ball on the left side of the court to give JC set point, and a Spartan setting error ended set one, 25-23.

Set two saw JC pull away midway through with the score at 13-8. An error by the visitors, an ace from Aly Reardon (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West HS), a kill from Podolan, another Reardon ace, and a block from Grace Erskine (Mooresville, N.C. / Community School of Davidson) made it 18-8. The Eagles wound up taking set two, 25-12 on a kill from Victoria Taylor (Middletown, Del. / Delaware Military Academy).

The third set saw Juniata use a 9-1 surge to go up 15-7, and they never looked back as they won the third set and the match, 25-20.

Juniata will celebrate their seniors and take on Wesleyan at 7:30 this evening.
