Bomb Squad, Eagles Defuse Bombers Again for 19th Straight Victory

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's volleyball team completed another perfect weekend as they defeated Ithaca College for the second time this season, 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-17) Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Gymnasium.

The first set saw the teams trade the lead back and forth early, with the Bombers pulling within one at 15-14. A kill from Victoria Taylor (Middletown, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) along with an ace and a kill from Kennedy Christy (Saxonburg, Pa. / Knoch HS) made it 18-14. The Bombers called timeout and mustered a point after, but the Eagles rattled off seven of the final eight points to take the first set 25-16. Taylor led the way as she had four of the seven JC points.

The second set was a tighter affair, with the Eagles never leading by more than four in the second half of the set. JC separated at 14-14 with two errors from Ithaca, an ace from Kiona Sky Rousset-Hernandez (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico / Colegio Bautista de Carolina HS) and a Mackenzie Coley (Norco, Calif. / Norco HS) kill. Still, the visitors kept it close, getting within two several times. The final time was 22-20, as a block from Grace Erskine (Mooresville, N.C. / Community School of Davidson) and Lily Podolan, and a Christy kill gave JC set point. An attack error by Ithaca ended set two in favor of the Eagles, 25-21.

A 5-0 run early in the third gave Juniata some breathing room, as three errors by the Bombers along with kills from Taylor and Podolan made it 10-5. Ithaca used a 4-0 surge late to get within three, 20-17, but three errors, a block by Erskine and Taylor, and an ace from Aly Reardon (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West HS) gave Juniata match point. Erskine's kill ended the match for the Eagles, 25-17.

Juniata returns to the court Friday at 3:00 to take on York in the Wid Guisler Invitational here in Huntingdon.
