Eagles Evade Sting of Yellow Jackets

NEW CONCORD, OH- The #12 Juniata women's volleyball team was in complete control of their opening match of the day as they dispatched Baldwin Wallace 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-16) Saturday afternoon on day two of the Muskingum Invitational.  

The opening set was tight early, with the Yellow Jackets scoring twice in a row to get within two at 14-12. Kills from Mackenzie Coley (Norco, Calif. / Norco HS) and Kennedy Christy (Saxonburg, Pa. / Knoch HS), along with four Baldwin Wallace errors, made it 19-12. Juniata didn't let up as they took the opening set 25-14.  

Juniata hit .467 as a team with 17 kills in the second set as the Eagles reclaimed the lead early and never looked back to win 25-17. 

In the final set of the match with the score at 9-8, kills from Victoria Taylor (Middletown, Del. / Delaware Military Academy), Olivia Foley (Coldwater, Mich / Coldwater HS), Grace Erskine (Mooresville, N.C. / Community School of Davidson), an ace from Sydney Ohl (Dallastown, Pa. / Dallastown Area) along with a Yellow Jacket error made it 14-8. Juniata's lead never dipped below four the rest of the match as they took set three 25-16 to win the match.  

Taylor led the way with 14 kills while hitting a robust .619, while Coley was perfect, hitting the ball with six kills on six swings. Aly Reardon (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West HS) chipped in with six kills (.357), nine digs, and two service aces, while Foley tallied 31 assists, seven digs, and two aces. 

Juniata will return to action against Wittenberg at 4:00.
