Eagles Sweep Both Tigers, Knights

ROCHESTER, NY- The #14 Juniata women's volleyball team swept Rochester Institute of Technology 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-18) and SUNY Geneseo 3-0 (25-11, 25-14, 25-16), Saturday afternoon on the campus of Nazareth College at Kidera Gymnasium.  

The Eagles opened the match against Rochester Institute of Technology by hitting .276. The set was tight early at 10-7, but the Eagles blew the game wide open with an 8-0 run that featured blocks by Aly Reardon (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West HS) and Mackenzie Coley (Norco, Calif. / Norco HS), Grace Erskine (Mooresville, N.C. / Community School of Davidson) and Olivia Foley (Coldwater, Mich / Coldwater HS) along with several Tiger errors. A Coley kill eventually ended set one, 25-11. 

Set two saw the Tigers hang around for most of the set, getting as close as three at 18-15, but the Eagles pulled away and took the set on a solo block from Reardon.  

The Eagles used a decisive 6-0 run midway through the final set to make it 21-11 and wound up winning the match on a bad RIT set, 25-18. 

Reardon had quite the day serving the ball for the Eagles as she had six service aces to go with her nine kills and 10 digs.  

Against SUNY Geneseo, runs of 5-0 and 6-0 in the first set allowed the Eagles to run away with the opener, 25-11.  

In set two, holding a four-point advantage at 9-5, the Knights committed a service error, Kennedy Christy (Saxonburg, Pa. / Knoch HS) served up two straight aces, the Knights committed another error before Coley and Reardon teamed up for another block. A kill from Olivia Everett (Grove City, Ohio / Central Crossing HS) clinched set two for JC, 25-14.  

In the final set of the day for the Eagles, with the score at 20-16, Coley and Reardon tallied another block, the Knights committed two straight errors, Christy tacked on another ace to give Juniata match point prior to another Knight error ending the match, 25-16. 

Christy had a strong match from the service line, totaling four aces to go with her 12 kills and eight digs. 

Juniata, now 8-1, will play Messiah on Friday at 7:00.
