Eagles Rise Above Golden Flyers

Eagles Rise Above Golden Flyers

ROCHESTER, NY- The Juniata women's volleyball team kicked off their weekend in New York with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-15) win over host Nazareth Friday evening inside Kidera Gymnasium.

Juniata hit a blistering .448 to open the match, their best hitting percentage in a set in the match, which they needed as it was the closest set of the match. With the score at 19-17, the Eagles called a timeout. Following the break, JC scored six of the final seven points to take the opener, 25-18.

The second set saw the Eagles jump out to a 10-3 lead and never look back as they cruised through the set to win 25-12.

The third set appeared to be more of the same, as Juniata led 10-2 early, but this time the Golden Flyers had a response as they got the JC lead back down to three at 14-11. Juniata called timeout and took control from there. Lily Podolan(Columbus, Ohio / Worthington Kilbourne) and Aly Reardon (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown West HS) managed a kill, each sandwiched around an Olivia Foley (Coldwater, Mich / Coldwater HS) service ace. Nazareth got two points back before another kill and an ace from Reardon to go with a Grace Erskine (Mooresville, N.C. / Community School of Davidson) kill. A few points later, a kill from Kennedy Christy (Saxonburg, Pa. / Knoch HS) pushed Juniata to match point, and Mackenzie Coley's (Norco, Calif. / Norco HS) kill won it at 25-15.

Tomorrow, Juniata takes on Rochester Institute of Technology at 1:00 and SUNY Geneseo at 5:00.
