Barbacci Wins Pole Vault, Team Holds Sixth at Day One of Landmark Outdoor Champs

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.- The Juniata women's track and field team opened the Landmark Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday. Battling through poor conditions, Juniata earned points in three events: Olivia Barbacci won the pole vault in back-to-back years, Ashley Alfree tied for fourth, Nandee Correia was third in the hammer throw, and Emma Coolidge placed fifth in the javelin throw. 

Barbacci earned first in the pole vault for the second consecutive year with a mark of 3.10 meters on her first attempt. After both she and another competitor were unable to clear 3.25 meters and both cleared 3.10 meters on the first attempt, results reverted to clearing 2.95 meters; Barbacci cleared on the first attempt, and her competitor cleared on the second time of asking, which earned her gold. Alfree tied for fourth place with a mark of 2.50 meters on her first attempt, which is her new best height of the year. tied for tenth place after clearing 2.50 meters on her third attempt for a new personal record. Her previous best mark was 2.40 meters, set twice this year, including last week's Blue Jay Tune-Up. 

Correia earned bronze in the hammer throw with a mark of 42.74 meters on her second attempt in the finals.  

Coolidge was fifth in the javelin throw with a 30.81-meter mark on her last throw in the finals. Justice Sheaffer claimed tenth place with a mark of 27.78 meters, missing a chance at the finals by one spot. 

Kelly and Abby Sheredy each raced in the 100-meter hurdles. Kelly placed 19th with a time of 18.84, while Abby set a new personal record with a time of 19.52 to earn 21st place. Her previous best time was 19.36, set at the Shippensburg Mid-Week Meet in April. 

Camille McRoberts placed 16th in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:16.67.  

Kelly also logged a long jump mark of 4.08 meters to place in 21st. 

The Juniata women's track and field team was in sixth place with a score of 19.5 with five events scored. They'll conclude Landmark Conference Championships on Sunday and are slated to compete in eight events.
