Eagles Claim Four Event Wins at Mason-Dixon Classic

GETTYSBURG, Pa.- The Juniata women's track and field team earned a pair of event wins at the Gettysburg Mason-Dixon Classic, as Nandee Correia won the shot put and improved her personal record to set a new program record, Olivia Barbacci won the 400-meter hurdles, and Juniata's 4X400 meter team won the event. In total, Juniata earned points 13 times across 11 events. 

Correia won the shot put with a mark of 11.88 meters, yet again setting the outdoor program standard in the event. She had set a mark of 11.70 meters at the 2021 Juniata Invitational. Chloe Sauer was ninth with a mark of 9.95 meters, while Kaleah Leisher set an event PR of 9.49 meters to finish in 13th. She had set a 9.33-meter mark last week at Westminster. 

Barbacci earned first place in the 400 hurdles for the second time this week following a win at Shippensburg on Wednesday, finishing in 1:07.11. 

The 4X100 relay team of Rebecca ChristophelBarbacci, Ashley Alfree, and Camille McRoberts was the best of seven teams in the 4X400 meters with a time of 4:14.17.  

Barbacci also found success in the pole vault, finishing second with a mark of 3.20 meters. Alfree jumped a season-high 2.54 meters to tie for tenth, while Josie Kelly was 12th with a mark of 2.30 meters. 

Correia's success continued with a third-place result in the hammer throw with a mark of 40.39 meters, a new personal record. Her previous best mark was 40.22 meters, set at 2022's Coach P Invitational at Moravian. Sauer and Emma Coolidge also achieved new personal bests. Sauer was 21st with a mark of 29.10 meters, while Coolidge finished in 25th place with a mark of 26.32 meters. 

Juniata's throwers also found success in the javelin throw with a pair of points finishes. Coolidge was fourth with a mark of 33.39 meters, while Justice Sheaffer set a PR with a mark of 29.65 meters to claim fifth.  

Leisher led the way for Juniata in the discus throw with her sixth-place mark of 32.10 meters to set a personal record. At Shippensburg on Wedesday, she threw 31.46 meters. Sauer was tenth with a mark of 29.30 meters, and Correia was a spot behind with a throw of 28.97 meters. Coolidge was 18th with a mark of 23.70 meters, while Sheaffer PR'd in 20th place with a mark of 22.89 meters. Her standing mark of 21.35 was set at Shippensburg earlier this week. 

Ashley Alfree earned sixth in the high jump with a mark of 1.42 meters, while Josie cleared for the first time outside, finishing in 12th with a mark of 1.32 meters. 

Kelly was eighth in the long jump with a mark of 4.39 meters, setting a personal best mark. Her previous best was 4.24 meters, set to open the season at Millersville. 

Kelly also earned points in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing sixth with a time of 18.51 in the finals to PR in that event. Her previous best from Westminster last week was 18.75. Abby Sheredy finished a spot behind in the finals, earning seventh with a time of 20.70.  

Camille McRoberts was sixth in the 1500 meters, setting a personal record of 5:20.59. Her previous best time was 5:20.66, set at Millersville earlier this month. Ashley Anderson also raced in the event, placing 18th with a time of 6:44.10. 

Zoe Biles competed in the 100 meters, finishing in 13th place with a time of 13.89. 

Beck Mensch and Anderson competed in the 800 meters. Mensch was 20th with a time of 3:06.19, while Anderson was 21st with a time of 3:17.73.  

In team scoring, Juniata was fifth among ten teams competing with a score of 68.  

The Juniata women's track and field team will compete again next Saturday when they head to the Elizabethtown Invite.
