4x400 Relay Team, Barbacci Earn Podiums at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.- The Juniata women's track and field team competed in their second meet of the season in the Westminster College Invitational on Saturday. The day was highlighted by a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, while Olivia Barbacci tied for sixth place in her outdoor high jump debut. 

The team of Barbacci, Rebecca Christophel, Ashley Alfree, and Camille McRoberts claimed third place from ten teams with a time of 4:12.31 in the 4X400 meters, the first time the team competed in the event this outdoor season. 

Barbacci tied for sixth in the high jump with a 1.50-meter jump on her first attempt at that height. Alfree tied for 13th with a 1.35-meter jump, while Josie Kelly was unable to clear 1.35 meters.  

Juniata's jumping trio also competed in the long jump and pole vault. Barbacci was ninth with a mark of 4.99 meters, while Kelly was 35th with her 3.96-meter jump. Alfree finished in 38th place with a jump of 3.78 meters. Barbacci tied for 11th in the pole vault, jumping 2.73 meters on her first attempt. Alfree and Kelly were unable to clear 2.43 on their attempts. 

Juniata's throwers took part in the shot put, discus throw, and javelin throw.  

Correia claimed 11th place in the shot put with her mark of 11.40 meters, a new season-high. Emma Coolidge's first mark of 2024 of 9.86 meters placed her in 33rd, while Chloe Sauer finished in 35th place with a throw of 9.61 meters. Kaleah Leisher set a new PR with a 0.72-meter improvement from last week, throwing 9.33 meters for 37th place. 

Correia finished 17th in the discus throw with a season-best 30.41 meters. Coolidge was 34th with a mark of 25.82 meters, and Sauer threw 25.58 meters to earn 37th. Justice Sheaffer set a new personal best of 20.93 meters, a 0.70-meter improvement from last week at Millersville, to finish 49th. 

Coolidge earned 13th place in the javelin throw with a mark of 31.71 meters, and Sheaffer threw 25.61 meters to earn 26th place.  

Zoe Biles and Abby Sheredy each logged a 200-meter time. Biles placed 26th with a time of 29.13, while Sheredy's first collegiate 200-meter time was 33.29, and she finished in 40th place. 

Biles set a personal record in the 100 meters with her time of 13.62 to earn 22nd place. She had set a 13.99 at Millersville last week. 

Camille McRoberts raced in the 800 meters, setting an event record with a time of 2:34.41 to earn 15th place. Her previous best time from last week at Millersville was 2:34.94.  

Rebecca Christophel had Juniata's best 1500-meter time, finishing 23rd place with a time of 5:20.26. McRoberts was 25th with a time of 5:22.90, and Ashley Anderson set an event debut time of 6:41.01 to finish 47th.  

Kelly and Shredy raced in the 100-meter hurdles. Kelly set a new personal best time of 18.75 to finish in 17th place, reducing her previous time by 0.23 seconds from last week. Sheredy's event debut saw her place in 18th place with a time of 19.69.  

Beck Mensch set a new personal record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:28.42, finishing 28th. She set a 1:28.98 last week at the Millersville Metrics.  

Jessie Freeland marked her collegiate debut in the 5000 meters with a time of 24:40.15, finishing in 33rd place. 

The Juniata women's track and field team compete in the first of two meets next week when they head to the Shippensburg Mid-Week Meet on Wednesday.
