HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The women's tennis team lost their Tuesday afternoon contest with Hood College by a final score of 6-3.
The day began with third doubles pairing Shannon Snyder (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) and Payton Kough (Fayetteville, Pa. / Chambersburg Career Magnet) losing 8-1. The duo of Olivia Cooley (Portland, Ore. / La Salle Catholic College Prep) and Courtney Eller (Colver, Pa. / Central Cambria) lost second doubles by a score of 8-2. The Eagles then claimed their first point of the day at first doubles, with Maggie Ackley (Clearville, Pa. / Grier School) and Jamie Mahigel (Lewistown, Pa. / Mifflin County) winning 8-3.
Heading into singles play down 2-1, Juniata would see the gap continue to widen. Eller dropped the third singles match 6-0, 6-0, before Kough lost 6-1, 6-2 in the sixth singles match. With the score now 4-1 in Hood's favor, Snyder's 6-1, 6-4 loss at fifth singles sealed Juniata's fate. Cooley lost the fourth singles next by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Juniata would earn the final two points of the day, with Mahigel winning 6-2, 6-1 in second singles, and Ackley claiming a 6-0, 6-4 victory in first singles.
The Eagles will return to the courts on Saturday, hosting Catholic at 1:00 PM for their Landmark Conference opener.
