Women’s tennis opens 2009 fall slate with loss at Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Juniata College women's team opened up the fall portion of its 2009-10 season with a 7-2 loss at Frostburg State University, Wednesday afternoon in Frostburg, Md.

The Eagles (0-1) dropped all three doubles matches, with the no. 1 tandem of Amanda Fontana (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) and Katie Healy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) coming the closest to pulling off a win with their 8-6 loss to the Bobcats' Elly Dannenfelser and Megan Martin.

Healy rebounded to post a 6-2, 6-0 win over Frostburg's Vicky Stafford at no. 2 singles, while Maggie Wolenter (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) notched a 6-1, 6-4 victory at no. 3 singles.

Juniata continues play this Sunday, when both the men's and women's tennis teams will be in action on the Raffensperger Tennis Courts as the Eagles host Division I Saint Francis University. Competition will start with doubles matches beginning at 12:30 p.m.
