Women’s tennis closes out season with 5-4 win over Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Juniata College women's tennis team closed the books on its 2009-10 season with a 5-4 win over the Catholic University of America, Tuesday afternoon in Washington, D.C. 

The win allowed Juniata to finish its year with a 9-9 overall record, 2-4 in the Landmark Conference.

Juniata earned the win despite having only five athletes available for the rescheduled match, which was originally slated for Saturday, April 24. 

Senior Maggie Wolenter (Audubon, N.J./Audubon) and sophomore Katie Healy (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) opened doubles with an 8-5 win at no. 1 flight over Catholic's Marjorie Selinger and Ritamarie Holden, 8-5. 

Wolenter went on to post a 6-3, 6-0 win over Holden at no. 2 singles, giving the lone Juniata women's tennis senior a pair of victories in her final collegiate match. Healy also posted a win in singles, 7-5, 7-5 at no. 1 flight over Selinger.

Stacie Beegle (Schellsburg, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) logged a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Monica Harwood at no. 3 singles, while Lauren Perow (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) had a 6-0, 6-1 win over Isti Kuhn at no. 4 singles.
