Cardinals Shutout Eagles To Finish the Year

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's soccer team lost to the visiting Catholic University of America, 2-0, to close the 2023 season Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.

In the eighth minute, a slick bit of passing by the Cardinals saw Catholic's winger get down the right side and play a cross into the box that was headed into the JC net to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

The Cardinals hit the crossbar and forced Cati Besch into two saves in the first half.

In the 52nd minute, Ashley McWilliams played a ball into the box; Savanah Murray headed the ball towards the left corner, forcing the Catholic keeper to make a diving stop to push the ball wide of the target.

In the 73rd minute, the Cardinals drew a foul inside the box and converted the ensuing penalty kick, slotting it into the left side of the net to double their lead.

Catholic held a 16-2 advantage in shots, while the corner kicks were an even three apiece.

Besch made two saves in goal for JC, and Avery Zales completed the second half.

Juniata finishes the season 4-10-2.
