Eagles Soar Over Wildcats in Double Overtime

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.- The Juniata women's soccer team traveled to Penn College Tuesday evening, where they pushed the game into double overtime and emerged with a 2-1 victory over the Wildcats.

The Wildcats got on the board late in the first half, as JC went into the locker room trailing 1-0 at the break.

The Eagles were pushing the envelope heavily on offense to start the second half as they looked for an equalizer and finally found a breakthrough in the final six minutes. Before that, in the 82nd minute, Avery Zales (Montoursville, Pa. / Montoursville Area HS) kept the Eagles alive by denying a Penn College shot from 12 yards out with a low save to her right.

In the last six minutes of regulation, Colleen O'Brien (Collegeville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley) smashed a loose ball in the box into the top right corner to tie the game and send it into overtime.

In the first overtime, neither team was able to score. In the second overtime, the Eagles had enough. The team drew a corner kick, and Alyssa Bui (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill High School East) headed to the corner. She booted it in toward the goal, and Helen Chavez (Stroudsburg, Pa. / Stroudsburg HS) was perfectly placed to head the ball into the back of the net to secure the win for Juniata.

The Juniata women's soccer team plays again at home this Saturday, October 2nd, against Scranton a 1:00 pm.
