Early Goal by Bui Secures Women's Soccer First Dub of the Season

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's soccer team played the Oberlin Yeowomen at Gibbel Stadium on Sunday afternoon to secure their first win of the 2021-2022 season.

In the first five minutes of the game, the Eagle's forwards had great chemistry at the head of the offense. Ashley McWilliams (Stutersville, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic High School) took advantage of bad ball control by the Yeowomen, possessed it, and crossed it into Alyssa Bui (Cherry Hill, NJ / Cherry Hill High School East). Bui had a smooth one-touch for control and riffled a shot around two defenders to put the ball into the left side of the net to put JC up early on.

Cati Besch (Bellefonte, Pa./ Bellefonte Area High School) was pressured throughout the game with Oberlin's six shots on goal, but Besch managed to keep the visitors frustrated. Besch totaled five saves on the day, one of them being in the last five minutes of the game as a Yeowomen was charging in to follow a cross.  Besch abandoned her goal, dove onto the ball to secure the win for the Eagles.

Junior Alexa Neiderer (Landisville, Pa. Hempfield High School), senior Fiona McDonald (Langhorne, Pa. Neshaminy High School) and the rest of the defense were mistaken for a brick wall in the defensive third as Oberlin could not solve the JC defense in the second half.

The women's team will face Chatham on the road on Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
