O'Brien's Goal in the Last Minute Helps Eagles Earn Draw Against Westminster

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's soccer team opened their season at Gibbel Stadium on Saturday afternoon against Westminster.

The first half was a constant back and forth between the Titans and Eagles. Juniata's Avery Zales (Montoursville, Pa./ Montoursville Area High School) had three of her eight total saves in the first half.

Westminister scored with about fifteen minutes left in the second half, putting them up by one late in the game. With 45 second left on the clock, Colleen O'Brien (Collegeville, Pa./ Perkiomen Valley High School) drove up the field and snuck the ball in on the side of the net to send them into overtime.

During the first overtime, the Juniata defense was pressured with three shots on goal and a cornerkick but no attempt resulted in a Titans goal. Kali Pupo (Pottstown, Pa./ OJR High School) had a shot on goal but missed wide to send the game into double overtime.

In double overtime, Grace Gibbs (Arnold, Md./ Broadneck),  Ashley McWilliams (Stutersville, Pa./ Greensburg Central Catholic High School), and Alyssa Bui (Cherry Hill, NJ/ Cherry Hill High School East) all had a shot in double overtime but neither team was able to score. Zales had eight saves one the night, five being in the second half. Emma Moreland (Lebanon, Pa./ Cedar Crest) and Pupo had two shots on goal.

The Eagles will return to Gibbel Stadium tomorrow at 2:00pm against Oberlin.
