Gibbs Nets Nine as Eagles Top Gophers on Senior Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team topped Goucher, 17-2, Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium as the Eagles celebrated their seniors: Gwen DeLeva, Laura Dietrich, Grace Gibbs, and Megan McConnell.

Gibbs was dominant as she tied her own program single-game goals and points record. She tallied nine goals, an assist, six ground balls, three draw controls, and five caused turnovers. Peyton Goodrich totaled four goals, an assist, three ground balls, six draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Kyndall Yeager added three goals, two ground balls, and a caused turnover, while Tess Ledeboer had two ground balls, seven draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Skyler Stevens had a goal, an assist, a ground ball, and a caused turnover, while Elayna Stubbe and DeLeva had an assist apiece. Caoilinn Heatley got the win in goal, making two saves on the day.

Gibbs scored the game's first goal on a free position shot a little under four minutes in. Thirty seconds later, Goodrich added her name to the score column. Twenty seconds later, DeLeva found Gibbs cutting to the net; she caught the ball in the air and fired past the keeper all in one motion while being shoved in the back to make it 3-0. She added another, and Yeager struck on a free position shot to make it 5-0. The Gophers got one back to make it 5-1 at the end of the first.

Goodrich found her second off a Gibbs assist, and Goucher answered scoring a woman down to bring the lead back to four. The Eagles closed the half by scoring the final four goals, as they led by eight at the break.

The Eagles blanked Goucher in the second half as they scored all seven goals in the second half to build an insurmountable lead.

Juniata travels to take on Lycoming on Wednesday at 4:00.
