Eagles Top Greyhounds for First Time in Program History

Eagles Top Greyhounds for First Time in Program History

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team picked up a massive win at Moravian University, 19-13, Saturday afternoon at John Makuvek Field. It is the program's first-ever win over Moravian.

Peyton Goodrich led the way with seven goals, an assist, a ground ball, five draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Kyndall Yeager totaled four goals and two assists, while Grace Gibbs tallied four goals, an assist, five ground balls, four draw controls, and four caused turnovers. Kelliann Drummond had two goals, an assist, and two ground balls, while Skyler Stevens had a goal, an assist, and a ground ball. Shannon Para added a goal, while Maeve Kuser had five ground balls and five caused turnovers. Caoilinn Heatley made 13 saves in goal.

Drummond scored the opening goal of the game 55 seconds in, in what was a high-scoring opening quarter. The Greyhounds sandwiched five goals around Gibbs' unassisted goal as Juniata trailed 5-2 with just over four to play. The Eagles closed the quarter with Gibbs finding Yeager for her first, the hosts answering less than a minute later, and Goodrich found the back of the net in the final 20 seconds to make it 6-4 after one.

It was nearly five minutes into the second before either team scored, with Moravian striking first. The Eagles took over the following seven minutes as Goodrich set Para up for a goal, Stevens shook the net with a free position shot, Drummond scored her second, and Yeager returned the favor to Gibbs to give Juniata their first lead. The Greyhounds tied it up for a minute and a half, but Goodrich scored the final goal of the half, and JC led by one at the break, 9-8.

The teams traded goals in the first three minutes. Yeager scored off a Drummond feed while a woman was up, and the Moravian response made it 10-9. Juniata outscored the Greyhounds 4-2 the rest of the quarter, with Goodrich scoring three of the goals and Gibbs the other. Juniata led by three heading into the fourth.

Juniata put the game to bed over the first nine minutes as they scored the first four goals of the quarter to lead 18-11 with six and half minutes to go in the game. A Greyhound flurry saw them get within five with just under three to go, but Yeager found Gibbs again for the game's final goal to ice the win.

Juniata will look to ride their momentum as they host Susquehanna this Wednesday at 6:00.
