Gibbs Surpasses 200 Career Points as Eagles Tame Lions

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team exploded for nine goals in the third as they defeated visiting Albright College, 18-3, Wednesday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.  

Grace Gibbs surpassed 200 career points as she led the way with six goals, three assists, six ground balls, four draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Peyton Goodrich tallied five goals, five ground balls, seven draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Kyndall Yeager added a goal and two assists, while Kelliann Drummond had two goals and an assist. Shannon Para and Skyler Stevens each had a goal and an assist, while Sarah Hepburn and Gwen DeLeva contributed a goal apiece. Caoilinn Heatley made five saves in goal while Maeve Kuser tallied four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Tess Ledeboer added four caused turnovers, three ground balls, and three draw controls. 

Gibbs scored the only two goals of the first quarter 34 seconds apart. For the first goal, just over three minutes into the game, she spun between two defenders and fired over the goalie into the top of the net. The second she scored on a free position shot as JC led 2-0 after one. 

With 10:40 on the clock in the second, Yeager found Drummond in front of the goal, who made a tough catch in traffic and fired the ball low into the goal. 34 seconds later, Gibbs flipped it over to Goodrich, who darted in and scored to give JC a four-goal lead. The Lions got one back in the final 10 seconds, as the Eagles led by three at the break. 

Stevens opened the scoring in the second half just over two minutes in; Para found Drummond, and Stevens turned provider for the third goal of the half as Yeager added her name to the scorer's column. Para added her name to the list of goal scorers, and Gibbs scored two more, with the second being her 200th career point. The Lions scored while a woman up, but Goodrich closed the quarter with three goals to initiate a running clock as the Eagles led 13-2 through three. 

Juniata won the fourth quarter 5-1 to close the game.
