Eagles Disarm Knights, Move to 8-0 on the Year

BUENA VISTA, Va.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team continued their perfect start to the season with an 18-8 victory on the road at Southern Virginia Thursday afternoon at Knight Stadium.

Peyton Goodrich led the way with seven goals, an assist, seven ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Her eight points are a career-high and tied for the third most in a single game in program history. The same holds true for her seven ground balls. Grace Gibbs tallied four goals, two assists, five ground balls, six draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Kyndall Yeager totaled two goals, two assists, two ground balls, a draw control, and a caused turnover. Kelliann Drummond added a goal and an assist, while Isabella Michener, Skyler Stevens, and Michaela Naccarini chipped in with a goal apiece. Chloe Gerhard made two saves in goal to get the win.

Drummond scored 55 seconds into the contest, and the Eagles were off, as Goodrich added another, and Gibbs scored from a free position shot as Juniata led 3-0 six minutes into the game.

The Knights got one back, but the Eagles added three more in quick succession, with Gibbs finding Goodrich and Yeager finding Goodrich 25 seconds apart to put the Eagle lead to four. Goodrich returned the favor to Gibbs to make it 6-1. Two goals by Southern Virginia bookended one by Naccarini off a Drummond pass as the Eagles led 7-3 after one.

Juniata won the second quarter 4-2, with Gibbs striking twice as Goodrich and Yeager added one each. Gibbs scored the final goal of the half unassisted with under 45 seconds to go in the half as Juniata led 11-5 at the half.

The Knights got within five after scoring the first goal of the second half to make it 11-6, but the Eagles closed the third quarter by scoring three of the final four goals.

Juniata won the fourth quarter 4-1 and outshot the Knights 10-1 as they dominated the final frame of the game.

The Eagles are off until next Wednesday when they travel to Westminster to take on 3-3 McDaniel, Wednesday at 4:00.
