Women's Lacrosse Surges Past Blazers

FREDERICK, Md.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team never trailed as they won at Hood College, 16-8, Wednesday evening at Thomas Athletic Field. The victory pushes the Eagles to 5-0 on the season. 

Grace Gibbs led the way for the Eagles with seven goals, two ground balls, eight draw controls, and a caused turnover. Peyton Goodrich tallied four goals, an assist, two ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Kyndall Yeager amassed two goals, Skyler Stevens chipped in with a goal and an assist, while Shannon Para tacked on a goal, four ground balls, and a caused turnover. Kelliann Drummond had a goal, two assists, a ground ball, and a caused turnover. Tess Ledeboer had a team-high three caused turnovers and five ground balls. Chloe Gerhard made seven saves in the net for the Eagles to get the win. 

Yeager scored the opening goal on a free position shot four minutes in, with the Blazers countering with an eight-meter shot of their own to tie things at 1-1. Drummond gave the Eagles the lead back with another free position goal and turned provider as she found Goodrich for a goal. Gibbs found the back of the net in the final 21 seconds off a Goodrich pass while a woman down to put the Eagles up by three at the end of the first quarter. 

It was a tight second quarter; the teams exchanged goals throughout the quarter as Goodrich scored once, and Gibbs added the other two as Juniata led 7-3 heading into the halftime break. 

The Eagles began to take control in the third as they outscored the hosts 6-2 and outshot them 14-3. Juniata led 13-5 with one quarter to go. The teams were even in the final frame, as they each scored three goals apiece. 

Juniata outshot the Blazers 27-18 and went plus six on draw controls, 16-10. 

The Eagles will travel to take on the reigning President Athletic Conference Champion, Washington & Jefferson, who sits at 1-2, Saturday at 3:00.
