Women's Basketball Falls to Saints

Women's Basketball Falls to Saints

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team tipped off against Marymount in the Rebecca Martin McDaniel Tip-Off Tournament Friday night and lost 63-41.

A Steph Emert jumper was the first points of the evening for the Eagles, and her steal a few moments later resulted in a made jumper by Bri Bodtorf that made it 4-4 two and a half minutes in. Juniata got balanced scoring from their starters as everyone scored in the first period as Juniata led 15-10 after one.

The second quarter was a defensive battle as the teams combined for 17 points. JC went scoreless for the first six minutes of the quarter before Bodtorf converted a triple off a pass from Emelie Nonemaker to knot the score at 18. The Saints led by four, 22-18, in the final minute of the half before Kynnedy Miller made a jumper in the final 18 seconds as JC trailed by two at the half.

The Saints tried to pull away as they found a rhythm offensively early in the third, but jumpers from Bodtorf and a layup from Emert helped the Eagles hang around. A three from Berg cut the lead to eight with four minutes to go in the third, but an and-one from the Saints was the final three points of the quarter as Juniata trailed by 11 going into the final quarter.

Marymount blew the game early in the fourth as they led by as many as 22 to put the game away. First-Year Berg had a team-high 11 points, while Emma Coolidge was active in the passing lanes, leading the team with three steals and four Eagles had two steals.

Juniata will take on Hood tomorrow at 2:00.
