Eagles Lose Final Game on the Road

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team closed out their season on the road, falling to Moravian 77-46. They finish the season with record of 6-18 overall and 2-12 in the Landmark Conference.

The game began well for the Eagles, with the two teams trading the lead for much of the first quarter and solid early scoring from Averie Hess (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore). Hess would go on to lead the team in scoring, dropping in 14 points total. However, the team struggled to supplement that scoring, and after entering the second quarter down two, Juniata would head to halftime down 18 after being outscored 25-9 in the quarter.

Moravian would continue to press their advantage in the second half, making the first three buckets of the half before Juniata would respond with two made free throws from Emelie Nonemaker (Shippensburg, Pa. / Chambersburg). Nonemaker would finish the game with six points, three steals, and two rebounds. Another bench contribution came from Taylor Vrabel (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg), who scored nine points on a solid 4-6 shooting night and added four rebounds.

Turnovers and shot misses from Juniata helped Moravian maintain and grow their advantage throughout the second half. Moravian finished the game shooting 50 percent as a team, compared to 32.7 percent for the Eagles. The Greyhounds also had 21 turnovers compared to Juniata's 28.

Juniata will now turn its attention to the offseason, looking to improve for the 2022-23 season. They graduate five seniors: Grace Long (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin), Jamie Mahigel (Lewistown, Pa. / Mifflin County), Cassie Mock (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central Martinsburg), Hess, and Vrabel. We thank them for their outstanding contributions as student-athletes at Juniata College.
