Rangers Top Eagles on Senior Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team dropped a 69-45 decision to the visiting Drew Rangers Saturday afternoon inside Memorial Gymnasium on Senior Day.

Taylor Vrabel (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg HS) scored the opening two buckets for the Eagles, off assists from Grace Long (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin HS) and Cassie Mock (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central Martinsburg HS), respectively. The Rangers kept up with a jumper and a layup as the teams traded buckets early. Mock scored on a layup, the Rangers converted a pair of free throws, and Jamie Mahigel (Lewistown, Pa. / Mifflin County HS) swished a triple in the right corner of a pass from Vrabel.

Drew went on a 13-0 run over the next four minutes before Haily Sherman (Marysville, Pa. / Susquenita HS) got the ball in the right corner, split two defenders before driving past another along the baseline, and finished with a reverse layup.

A Long steal in the final of the opening quarter resulted in a Kynnedy Miller (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS) left-hand layup under duress to make it 21-13. The visitors tacked on a foul shot in the final minutes to lead 22-13 after one.

The Rangers controlled the early stages of the second quarter, going on a 15-4 run in the first five minutes to make it 36-17. JC trailed 41-21 at the break.

The Eagles outscored the Rangers 15-9 in the third but ultimately, Drew held a 28-24 advantage in scoring in the second half.

Juniata will be on the road next Wednesday as they take on Goucher, Wednesday at 7:00.
