River Hawks Top Eagles

River Hawks Top Eagles

SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The women's basketball team lost on the road to Susquehanna Saturday afternoon, falling 60-47.

The Eagles' scoring was led by Haily Sherman (Marysville, Pa. / Susquenita HS), who had 15 points but shot only 5 for 15 from the floor, in a performance emblematic of the team's overall shooting woes. She also contributed five rebounds, two steals, and an assist. Kynnedy Miller (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS) added 12 points of her own, all coming from behind the three-point line. Her stat line also included two rebounds, an assist, and a steal. Senior Cassie Mock (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central Martinsburg HS) led the team in rebounds with eight. She also had two assists, two steals, and a block. Mock suffered a poor shooting night as well, going 3 for 12 from the floor and an uncharacteristic 1 of 7 from beyond the arc.

The shooting struggles culminated in a 25 percent performance for Juniata, which the River Hawks easily outpaced. They shot 40.4 percent, led by a stellar 18-point game from guard Erin McQuillen (Cresskill, NJ. / Cresskill HS). McQuillen was 7 for 11 from the field and added five rebounds, two steals, and an assist.

Juniata managed to win the turnover battle, with only 15 compared to the River Hawks 19. Like shooting struggles, turnovers have been an issue for the Eagles over this losing stretch, making 15 a marked improvement over their 20.6 turnovers per game average.

The Eagles trailed for the entirety of the game, put on the back foot by a first quarter in which they shot 3 for 17 from the floor. They finished that quarter trailing 20-8, and despite marginal improvement in shooting and outscoring Susquehanna in the second half, they were never able to get back into the game.

Juniata will look to right the ship on Wednesday evening, hosting Elizabethtown at 7:00 PM in Memorial Gymnasium.
