Women's Basketball Falls on the Road at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team hit the road on Wednesday night to pay the Elizabethtown Blue Jays a visit resulting in a 76-48 score.

Elizabethtown points glowed on the scoreboard first. They followed with two more baskets to get up by six before the Eagles found the basket. Haily Sherman (Marysville, Pa. / Susquenita HS) cut in toward the left side of the basket, and with a Grace Long (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin HS) bounce pass, Sherman was able to put up an easy two.

With the final minute counting down in the first quarter, the Eagles had the ball under the net after a ball was sent out of bounds off a Blue Jays hand. Cassie Mock (Martinsburg, Pa. / Central Martinsburg HS) found Steph Emert (Hoovesville, Pa. / North Star HS) cutting in toward the middle. Emert had no hesitation and immediately pushed the ball out toward Aleya Eisenberg (Newville, Pa. / Big Spring HS) as she hit a three. The first quarter ended 25-10, Blue Jays.

Eisenberg hit another three at the beginning of the second quarter to continue her streak. The Eagles then scored the next three possessions in a row. Emert contributed at the foul line with a free throw, following it with a made layup the next time she was at the offensive side of the ball. Then, as Sherman was guarded heavily at the base, she found Averie Hess (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore HS). Hess found a lane to drive through untouched to put up points for the Eagles.

The Eagles came within ten points of the Blue Jays after a Long three-pointer with 2:08 left before the half ending at 45-28.

Hess and Long added to the three-point trend at the beginning of the second half, pushing the Eagles to 36. The Blue Jays, unfortunately, pulled ahead in the second half ending the game at 76-48.

Long had 15 points for the Eagles while shooting .500 at the three-point line. Hess followed her with nine points and four rebounds, and Sherman added six points.

The Eagles will return home on Saturday, January 29th, to host Scranton with a start time of 4:00 pm.
