Bison Bowl Over Eagles

Bison Bowl Over Eagles

BETHANY, W. Va.- The Juniata women's basketball team traveled to West Virginia to pay the Bethany Bison a visit on Tuesday night. Although the game came down to the final minutes, the final score favored the Bison, 55-65.

Bethany got ahead early in the first half as Juniata made a shot allowing Bethany to get ahead 2-11 in the first six minutes of the game. The Eagles were caught playing catch up the rest of the night due to the slow start, ending the first quarter 8-18 allowing the Bison an easy second-quarter momentum pull.

Juniata got in a two-point reach of the Bison with four minutes and eleven seconds left before the half after a good offensive drive led by Kynnedy Miller (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS) who had two offensive rebounds and four points in a span of three minutes in the game. The Eagles were not able to break the lead before halftime closing the half at 24-30.

In the last half, the Eagles fought hard to make up the slow start in the first half but it was never enough to pass the Bison. Juniata came as close as four points away to be even with Bethany but with a little under a minute and a half left on the scoreboard it was not enough time to push through.

Averie Hess (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore) led the Eagles with sixteen points with nine rebounds while going two for three at the three-point line. Haily Sherman (Marysville, Pa. / Susquenita High School) followed behind her senior with twelve points paired with six rebounds.

The Juniata Eagles return home on Saturday, December 18th, as they host Alvernia with a tip-off time set for 2:00 pm.
