Eagles Dominate Fourth Quarter Secures Win over Warriors

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team opened the Comfort Inn Invitational by welcoming Lycoming back to Memorial Gym on Friday afternoon. After an Eagle dominate fourth half, the Warriors were shut down 57-36.

In the first quarter, both teams were neck and neck on both sides of the ball. Juniata was down 11-8 until the Eagle's offense began to take off. Kynnedy Miller (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS) forced a turnover with a steal and a quick pass to Dani Scipioni (Altoona, Pa. / Bishop Guilfoyle) for a drive to push the score to 11-10, Lycoming. Miller took it upon herself again to fight for a rebound where she was able to find Hailey Sherman (Marysville, Pa. / Susquenita High School) at half court with 37 seconds left in the quarter. Sherman then drove into the net, beating the defense for an easy layup putting the Eagles up 12-11.

Sherman kept her streak going into the second quarter, starting it off with tacking a three onto the scoreboard to make it 15-14 in favor of the Eagles although it was the lowest-scoring quarter for both teams. Long ended the half by receiving a pass from Miller deep underneath the net, handled the one Warrior defender with a reverse layup while also getting fouled. She made her one foul shot ending the half 20-15 in favor of Juniata.

The Eagles had enough of the Warriors sticking around and it showed in the second half. Juniata outscored Lycoming 14-9 in the third quarter with six points off of the hands of Sherman, including back-to-back layup drives forcing a Lycoming timeout.

The fourth quarter started with a score of 34-26, Eagles up. Sherman put up nine in the fourth and Grace Long (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin) who came up big all game, showed out in the fourth quarter with six points. Taylor Vrabel (Chambersburg, Pa. / Chambersburg) sealed the deal for the Eagles putting up the final point for the final score of 57-36 after scoring 23 points in the fourth.

The Eagles will return to the court Saturday at 3:00 pm to take on Delaware Valley.
