Eagles Fall in Bethlehem

Bethlehem, Pa.- The Juniata women's basketball team lost at Moravian, 76-49, Saturday afternoon at Johnston Hall.

Rachael Anstine (York, Pa./Dallastown) had 13 points and seven blocks, Veronica Cosmopolis (Lima, Peru/Colegio Carmelitas) had nine points and three rebounds while Gracie Stauffer (Loysville, Pa./West Perry) added eight points and seven rebounds off the bench.

Dani Atkinson (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) made two foul shots followed by two makes at the line by Cosmopolis to pull Juniata within two at 6-4 in the opening minutes of the game. The Eagles did not score over the next seven minutes as Moravian went on a 11-0 run until Atkinson scored inside with under a minute left in the quarter. Juniata trailed 17-6 after one as Atkinson's layup was the sole field goal for JC in the opening period.

Anstine drilled a jump shot to open the second as the Eagles got off to a better start. Cosmopolis scored inside twice, Morgan Instone (Johnstown, Pa./Bishop McCourt) made a free throw, and Kaeana Rebert (Hanover, Pa./South Western) sunk a three to get the Eagles within five at 21-16. The Greyhounds slowly pushed their lead back into double digits over the next five minutes, with Anstine making a three with two seconds left in the half to pull the Eagles within 11 as they trailed 39-28 at half.

The third quarter saw the Greyhounds push the lead to 18 over the first seven and half minutes of the quarter. Atkinson scored inside, Stauffer scored on a put back and off a pass from Carmella Bickel (Elysburg, Pa./Lourdes Regional) which cut the deficit back to 12, 53-41, by the end of the third.

The Greyhounds completely controlled the fourth as they outscored the Eagles 23-8 in the final stanza. 

Moravian had a 59-45 edge on the glass and a 40-24 edge in points in the paint.

 Juniata will host Goucher, Wednesday at 7:00.
