TOWSON, Md.- Juniata junior softball player Cate Baran was named the Landmark Conference's Pitcher of the Week following a week where she delivered a pair of complete-game victories.
Baran pitched a total of 14 innings with just one earned run across the week as Juniata went 3-1 during a pair of doubleheaders against Lycoming College and Penn State Altoona.
In game one against Lycoming, Baran went seven innings with just two hits, a walk, and six strikeouts for her second career complete game shutout as Juniata claimed a 7-0 victory. She pitched all six innings in game one against Penn State Altoona with seven hits, one earned run, two walks, and seven strikeouts as Juniata claimed a 9-1 win in six innings. She then ended the day picking up her first save of the season with an inning of service with no baserunners allowed and a strikeout in a tight 4-3 victory in game two.
Baran also delivered solid offensive numbers on the week, going 3-for-12 with one RBI, a walk, and a pair of stolen bases.
It's the second time Baran was named Pitcher of the Week in her career, while she is the second Juniata player to earn a weekly honor following Jessie Hunt's nomination as Athlete of the Week on March 20th.
The Juniata softball team returns from the Easter break with a Landmark Conference doubleheader against Drew on Saturday.
