Royals Roll Past Eagles

Royals Roll Past Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata softball team dropped a pair of games to the visiting University of Scranton, 9-4 and 6-2, Sunday afternoon at West End Field.

The Eagles got on the board first, scoring three in the second inning. Dani Berlin drew a one out walk and got to third on an Emily Eutsey single to right center. Kay Magill drove in Berlin with a single to center, and two batters later, Cate Baran's chaotic fielder's choice allowed Magill and Eutsey to score as the Eagles led 3-0.

The Royals responded in the top of the third with six runs on seven hits as Juniata suddenly found themselves in a three-run hole.

Scranton added three more in the sixth to double their lead, and the Eagles only managed to get one back in the bottom of the seventh on another Magill RBI single as the game ended 9-4.

Alison Superka was 2-3, Magill went 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Alex Douglass was 1-2 with a walk. Berlin went 0-2 with a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored.

Scranton struck first in game two, scoring five runs on five hits in the second inning as the Eagles faced an early deficit. The Royals added their sixth run in the fourth on a sac fly to center.

In the bottom half of the inning, the Eagle offense got going, with Superka starting the inning with a walk. She got to second on Maryn Swank's groundout to short, Magill drew a walk, and Ruthie Betts got hit by a pitch to load the bases. Lauren Fisher singled through the right side to send Superka home, and Magill scored on Ashley Cheung's fielder's choice.

The pitchers controlled the final three innings as neither team scored the rest of the way, as Scranton took game two 6-2.

Swank went 1-2 with a walk, while Fisher was 1-3 with an RBI.

The Eagles have a short turnaround as they will travel to take on Lycoming Tuesday at 3:00.
