Royals Take Two From Eagles in Season Finale

SCRANTON, Pa.- The Juniata softball team suffered a pair of losses at the University of Scranton, 11-3 (six innings) and 12-0 (five innings), Saturday afternoon.

The Royals got on the board in the first on a sac fly to center. They pushed three additional runs across in the third on another sac fly, an RBI-single and a two-run double to center.

The top of the fourth is when the Eagles did their damage, with Ruthie Betts (Hawk Run, Pa. / West Branch Area) breaking up the no-hitter with a one-out single to left center. Kassandra Roush (Indiana, Pa. / Marion Center Area) singled to right and got to second on the throw, while pinch-runner Madison Wrightstone (York Haven, Pa. / Northeastern) got to third. Alex Douglass (West Chester, Pa. / West Chester East) was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Abby John (Mount Airy, Md. / South Carroll) drew a walk to get a run across. Pinch hitter Jessie Hunt (Bath, Pa. / Northampton Area) stepped up with two outs and singled to center to plate two runs.

Scranton scored three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, with two coming on a home run to right-center.

The Royals scored one in the fifth and two more in the sixth, as they won the game on a fielder's choice.

In game two, the Royals scored two in the first before a monster nine-run inning blew the game open. They added a run in the fourth before the game ended after five innings.

Juniata wraps the season 11-23.
