Softball Drops Two Tough Games at Susquehanna

Softball Drops Two Tough Games at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The Juniata softball team dropped a pair of tough decisions on the road at Susquehanna, 3-1 and 2-1, Wednesday afternoon.

Cate Baran (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone Area) got the start in game one for JC, pitching six innings and allowing six hits, three runs (two earned), and striking out four.

The River Hawks did their damage in the second, using three hits along with two Eagle errors to push three runs across.

Juniata scored their lone run in the fourth, as Maya McLeod (San Diego, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day) led off with her third triple of the season. Jessie Hunt (Bath, Pa. / Northampton Area) followed by flying out to right, which allowed McLeod to score.

Juniata only reached twice the rest of the game, with Abby John (Mount Airy, Md. / South Carroll) reaching on an error in the fifth and Alex Douglass (West Chester, Pa. / West Chester East) singling to short in the seventh.

The River Hawk's two pitchers combined to limit JC to three hits and strikeouts.

In game two, Catherine Miller (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) stepped to the circle for the Eagles, going six innings while allowing eight hits and two runs while striking out three.

The River Hawks scored in the first inning on an in-field single. The Eagles got the run back in the second, with Miller smashing a one-out double down the right field line. Douglass followed with a double in the same spot to knot things at one.

The pitchers traded zeros, with the Eagles getting a runner to second in the sixth and the seventh, but they could not get the runner home. This proved costly as SU led off with a single, and two batters later; a double to right center ended the game.

The Eagles will host Drew, Saturday with first pitch at 1:00.
