#16 Moravian Takes Two From Softball

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata softball team dropped two games to visiting #16 undefeated Moravian, 7-4 and 11-4, Saturday afternoon at West End Field.

The Greyhounds struck first via a solo homer to left in the top of the first. In the bottom half of the inning, Cate Baran (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone Area) led off with a single to center and got to second on a sacrifice bunt by Caleigh Love (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury). Maya McLeod (San Diego, Calif. / La Jolla Country Day) drew a walk, and Catherine Miller (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon Area) smashed a double to center to clear the bases. Later, a Ruthie Betts (Hawk Run, Pa. / West Branch Area) single to right scored Alison Superka (Orefield, Pa. / Parkland) from third.

The Greyhounds scored two runs in the second to tie the game and put up another in the fourth to retake the lead.

Juniata tied things again in the fifth when Jessie Hunt (Bath, Pa. / Northampton Area) came in to pinch-hit with Superka at third and lined an RBI-single to left.

Moravian scored one in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk and another two in the seventh on a homer and an RBI groundout to second to get the win in game one.

In game two, the Eagles started off strong with a Love double down the leftfield line followed by a McLeod double to left to make it 1-0. Superka hit an RBI-single to center to score McLeod and make it 2-0 JC.

The Greyhounds pulled even one swing with a two-run homer and added another three on a three-run blast. Juniata got two back in the bottom half of the inning as Baran stole home on a double steal, and McLeod later scored on a wild pitch to bring the Eagle within one at 5-4.

It was all Moravian the rest of the way as they added scored two runs in the fifth and another four in the seventh to complete the scoring.

Juniata will take on Penn State Altoona Tuesday with first pitch at 3:00.
