NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Juniata's softball team was dealt two losses on Monday, courtesy of the #9-ranked and undefeated Christopher Newport Captains.
The Eagles lost game one by a score of 10-0, putting up only two hits in five innings while pitchers Cate Baran (Tyrone, Pa. / Tyrone) and Katie White (New Milford, Pa. / Blue Ridge) gave up a combined 13 hits. Senior Lauren Fisher (Bellefonte, Pa. / Bald Eagle Area) and sophomore Ali Superka (Orefield, Pa. / Parkland) were the two Juniata batters to produce hits, while junior Ruthie Betts (Hawk Run, Pa. / West Branch Area) worked a walk to give the Eagles a total of three baserunners in the game.
Game two would prove to be a similarly lop-sided affair, with Christopher Newport winning 14-0 and the game again ending in five innings. Hitting was again scarce for the Eagles, with Betts and Baran both hitting singles along with sophomore Caleigh Love (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury).
The team will be back in action tomorrow, traveling to Shenandoah University for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM.
